Images in Magento platform can either be product images or category images. Category images just like other category items uses alternatives of categories for instance the active settings, thumbnail images as well as names to identify elements with the store. Category images can be located by the following root directory; Media-Catalog-Category. Product images on the other hand define specific products within the store subject to their attributes in the store. They can be located through the following path; Media-Catalog-Products. Category images, thumbnails as well as product images are all stored in the media directory. It is also used as a storage hub for retrieving or storing items through mass export and import tools. This also means that when managing a Magento account, deleting an image does not compete remove it from the store because the original physical file is still in the media directory. If you have to or want to delete the file completely, you will have to do so from the FTP. The FTP is used for managing both product images and category images; it also allows for downloading and uploading of images.
Adjusting a template
Management of an online store involves constantly changing its looks and design in order to suit customer or business needs. As a result, a good ecommerce platform should offer this type of flexibility while maintaining the efficiency of the overall store. It is therefore important to know how and where the template files are stored. Normally, template files including those containing images are categorized into three folders located through the following root paths:
- /app/design/frontend/default/THE_TEMPLATE_NAME/layout/ – it contains files with .xml extensions in their names. They define how modules are arranged within the online store.
- /app/design/frontend/default/THE_TEMPLATE_NAME/template/- it contains files that define the final outcome for users of the store. To achieve this function, it uses the files located in the above folder.
- /skin/frontend/default/YOUR_TEMPLATE_NAME/– this root path leads to the folder that now contains images and the flash files. In addition, it also contains Java Scripts.
Efficient management in online stores is what separates successful online businesses from their counterparts that just exist by sheer chance. This is especially important when images are involved because they are the main elements that make the store user friendly. As a result, good knowledge as to where and how they are stored will impact on how effective they are managed.
