Why I’m Running
My name is Dr. Dan Eichenbaum, and I am standing for election to Congress. Like you, I believe that our country is in dire straits. In fact, we are on the edge of a financial abyss. Our federal government is controlled by an Administration that believes deficits don’t matter. They think we can continue to borrow, print and spend our way to prosperity. I stand here to say that deficits and debts do matter. We cannot continue sacrificing our children’s and our grandchildren’s futures by mortgaging tomorrow to pay for today.
I understand the unconstitutionality of this federal debt. In 1787, the founders gave us The Constitution, a document that forever changed the relationship between man and government. They believed, as do I, in Natural Law, that our rights are God-given and not derived from any government. They understood that the proper role of government is to protect and secure the rights of life, liberty, and property; not amend, abridge or restrict them. Protected by these Constitutional guarantees, America became the land of opportunity for millions of legal immigrants who came because they believed that hard work and perseverance would lead to prosperity and social advancement. The American Experiment, characterized by limited government and unlimited opportunity, has produced the greatest improvement to the human condition in the history of mankind. The devaluation of the dollar, through the Federal Reserve’s continuous printing of money, is not only decimating the American Dream, it’s also destroying the American Experiment, and besides, it’s not constitutional.
I understand the American Dream. About 100 years ago, my grandparents were legal immigrants to this county. They came with nothing but the desire to live the American dream. They enrolled in night school to learn English, went to work, and gladly became part of the great melting pot of our society; not to become hyphenated-Americans, but to become just Americans. They sacrificed not only for their own future, but for their children’s future, and for generations to follow. Today, I stand for and live by the values that my parents and grandparents instilled in me as a child – always tell the truth, take responsibility for your actions, obey The Golden Rule, love God, and respect the sanctity of all Life. The Ten Commandments, God’s ultimate moral code, transcends any specific religion and applies to each of us. These are the very same Judeo-Christian values, the undeniable and absolute foundation of our country, that my wife Rhonda and I taught our own children to guide them toward successful lives.
I understand that over the years many Republicans have not guarded freedom. After the 2002 election, for the first time in 50 years, Republicans controlled both the White House and Congress. The Republican Party could have and should have been the protectors of the Constitution, the defenders of limited government, and the champions of free markets and fiscal responsibility. Instead, we sought compromise and cooperation with the Left, and, in the process, lost our way as a Party. How can anyone who claims to be of conscience and principles reach across the aisle to work with those who have neither?
I understand progressivism. When the Democrats regained control of Congress and the White House in2008, the American way of life came under siege by liberals and progressives, seeking to replace individual rights with collective rights, property rights with so-called social justice, and our American culture and history with a radical multiculturalism. This is not only unacceptable, it’s also unconstitutional.
I understand the enormity of the 2012 election. This election is a defining moment in American history. We must take back the White House and the Congress if we are to reverse course and literally save our country. In the 11th District of North Carolina, we have a real opportunity to turn the tide. To do this, we must return to our Party’s principles – fiscal restraint, individual freedom, personal responsibility, and limited government. Voters are fed up with both parties, especially with career politicians and party insiders. We’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore. The most important thing we can do is exercise our constitutional right to vote.
I understand the grass roots conservative movement. In the past three years, we the people have begun again to find our voice. Out of frustration and anger, a true grass roots movement is rising up all around our nation, growing larger and louder each day, demanding an end to out-of-control debt, interference with capitalism and private business, tyrannical executive orders, business-as-usual compromise, and the oligarchy which is Washington DC. In Western North Carolina, this movement is possibly stronger than anywhere else in the state. We need to give the people what they want:
(1) a true grass roots candidate, unencumbered by political baggage, and
(2) a leader who will be true to the principles of the Republican Party and our founding fathers.
A Republican in name only, an unprincipled RINO, who goes along to get along, will be a disaster not only for our district but also for the country. A RINO can’t beat a Blue Dog. The Democrats know that. But do WE? We need a strong grass-roots candidate.
I believe I am that candidate. Why?
(1) I’m a strict constitutionalist. If it’s not constitutional, I will vote against it.
(2) I’m accountable. I am the only candidate in this race to have voluntarily taken a bonded term limit pledge. My motto is that career politicians cannot be trusted.
(3) I have the life experience, including the military service to our country, necessary to make the right moral decisions.
(4) I have the communication skills to debate, challenge, and stand up for our district, the United States, and for our Constitution.
(5) I have the grass roots support. In 2009, Rhonda and I organized the Cherokee County 9-12. Now, in 2012, my broad genuine support among the grassroots movements in our district gives me the advantage necessary to defeat the incumbent, Heath Shuler.
I am Dr. Dan Eichenbaum, and I am standing for election to Congress in 2012.
I ask for your vote.
I ask for your trust.
I ask you to Trust in Freedom.
